Question by : I asked someone if I can be emancipated, I can’t, but what about adoption?
I asked a question if I qualified for emancipation, this was one of the responses I got: “Emancipation won’t be granted because you are living in a stable environment. On top of that, you would have to prove you can support yourself. You’re not being subject to abuse or neglect. You can start building your future now by applying for grants and scholarships and other financial aid for college. Try to car pool or use taxi cabs to get to and from work until you buy a car. It’s gonna be hard, but you are in no position to file for emancipaiton.”

Now I’m wondering if there is a way my friend’s parents would be able to adopt me with out the consent of my parents. (I’m 17 and live in KS)

What are your parents doing that is so terrible?

No, you cannot be adopted without the consent of your parents. That’s very illegal and really unnecessary.

Listen – I don’t know what’s happened. I don’t know what transpired to this point. However, if you aren’t being abused, be thankful for what you have! The last few years of high school are always the worse in relation to your parents. You want more freedom, they don’t want to let go.

Don’t run from it. Face it. These are your parents – they will always be your parents. Believe it or not, I’m pretty sure they still love you.

After the age of 13 you have a legal right to refuse to return home, however, running away is illegal. So, what you can do is go up to the police station, your local one and tell them that it is your understanding that you have a legal right not to return home after the age of 13 and that you do not want to return home and that your friends parents said it would be okay for you to live with them and let them notify your parents for you so you cannot be reported as a run away!

No. There must be a reason for you to be adopted. It is a long drawn out process that takes literally years to get through. Your mom would have to be abusing you and the allegations be proven true in order for you to even start the adoption process. You can’t choose to be adopted.

NO they can’t

If your 17 you only have a year tops and you can move out or do whatever you want to do because you would then be an adult

So hang in there, and anything you would do in court would take just about a year anyway so just wait it out

Seriously, grow up. Just because you don’t like the situation you’re in, doesn’t mean you’re a victim in any way.

No, they can’t adopt you. You’re almost 18, suck it up.

What the hell does appling for loans, grants and scholarships have to do with getting emancipated? Where did you get this response from? The person who gave you that response has to be as dumb as a roll of used toilet paper.
